The problem: steam leaking and the machine not heating properly

This Sage Oracle came to us with a steam leak and a heating fault.

During our initial inspection, we found a leak around the steam-boiler probe area, damage to the triac board and an operated steam-boiler thermal fuse. Together, these faults prevented the steam boiler from heating normally.

Simply replacing one component would not have addressed the complete problem. The source of the leak also needed resolving to help prevent further damage.

What caused the Sage Oracle heating fault?

The triac board controls the machine’s heating elements. A fault in this control system can interfere with normal heating, while an operated thermal fuse interrupts the heating circuit.

On this machine, our findings were consistent with an internal steam leak contributing to electrical damage and a subsequent heating fault.

Our inspection identified:

• Steam leaking around the steam-boiler probes.
• A damaged triac board affecting heating control.
• An operated steam-boiler thermal fuse preventing normal heating.

Although the machine had several faults, it remained repairable.

The repair: resolving the leak and restoring heating

We completed the service and repair, addressing the steam leak and the affected heating components.

We also replaced the three-way brew solenoid as a preventative maintenance measure. Following the repair, the machine was back in working order and heating as it should.

The total cost for this particular Sage Oracle service and repair was £260.

Why is my Sage Oracle not heating up?

A Sage Oracle that is not heating up, remains on its warm-up screen or produces no steam can have several possible causes, including:

• A heating-element fault.
• An operated thermal fuse.
• A temperature-sensor problem.
• A boiler-filling fault.
• A triac-board or other heating-control fault.

In this case, the steam leak and heating-system damage were linked. Another machine with similar symptoms may have a different cause, which is why inspection matters.

If your machine makes coffee but cannot steam milk, mention this when enquiring. Knowing which functions still work helps us understand the symptoms.

Why is my Sage Oracle tripping the electrics?

A Sage Oracle tripping the electrics needs an electrical fault investigation.

Internal water or steam leaks can allow moisture to reach electrical components. Other possible causes include heating-element insulation failure, damaged wiring or a defective electrical component.

Although electrical tripping was not a confirmed symptom in this particular customer case, it is a related issue we can investigate.

If your coffee machine trips the electrics, stop using it and unplug it. Repeatedly switching it on or attempting a descale will not safely resolve an electrical fault.

When contacting us, explain whether the machine trips:

• Immediately after switching on.
• While heating up.
• During coffee extraction.
• When using the steam wand.

Signs of an internal Sage Oracle steam leak

An internal leak is not always immediately visible. Symptoms that warrant an inspection include:

• Persistent hissing from inside the casing.
• Steam escaping from the machine’s body.
• Unusual condensation.
• Water collecting underneath the machine.
• A leak accompanied by weak steam or heating problems.

Some water entering the drip tray during normal operation is expected. Water or steam escaping elsewhere should be investigated.

Is a Sage Oracle worth repairing?

A steam leak or heating fault does not automatically mean your Oracle needs replacing.
