Sage Coffee Machine Repairs: Barista Express, Pro, Touch & Bambino Compared
Sage coffee machines are designed to deliver excellent espresso at home, but even a well-maintained machine can develop faults over time. Whether you own a Sage Barista Express, Barista Pro, Barista Touch, Bambino or Bambino Plus, a problem with water flow, pressure, heating, steaming or grinding can quickly interrupt your daily coffee routine.
The good news is that a faulty Sage coffee machine does not automatically need replacing.
At Brew & Grind, we specialise in Sage coffee machine repairs, helping customers across the UK diagnose faults, replace defective components and extend the life of their machines.
In this guide, we compare the most common repair issues across the main Sage domestic espresso machine ranges, explain what can affect repair costs and help you decide what to do when your machine stops working correctly.

Which Sage coffee machine do you need repaired?
Different Sage models use different heating systems, controls and brewing components. Although some symptoms overlap, the underlying fault and the repair required can vary considerably.
Sage Barista Express repair
The Sage Barista Express is a popular choice for home espresso enthusiasts because it combines an integrated grinder with a traditional espresso machine.
Common Barista Express repair enquiries include:
- The grinder is not working or has become unusually noisy.
- Water is not coming through the group head.
- The machine has lost pressure or coffee is dispensing very slowly.
- Water is leaking underneath the machine.
- The steam wand produces weak steam or no steam.
- The machine is not heating correctly.
- Water or coffee leaks around the portafilter.
- The machine trips the electrics or stops working unexpectedly.
Some extraction problems are caused by grind size, coffee dose or a blocked basket rather than a failed component. However, a sudden change in performance or persistent loss of water flow may indicate an internal fault.
A professional inspection helps establish whether the issue is related to the grinder, pump, valves, heating system, seals or another component.
Our standard Barista Express service and repair fee is £120 plus any required parts.

Sage Barista Pro repair
The Barista Pro offers integrated grinding and a more advanced heating system than some of the older Sage models.
Common repair enquiries include:
- The machine stops dispensing coffee after a few seconds.
- There is little or no water flow.
- The machine is not reaching the correct temperature.
- The steam wand is producing weak steam.
- The grinder has stopped working.
- The machine is leaking internally.
- The controls or display are behaving unexpectedly.
Because different components can produce similar symptoms, it is important to diagnose the fault before replacing parts.
For example, no water from the group head does not automatically mean the pump has failed. A restriction, valve problem or another issue within the water circuit may be responsible.
Our standard Barista Pro service and repair fee is £120 plus any required parts.
Sage Barista Touch repair
The Barista Touch combines espresso preparation with touchscreen controls and automatic milk texturing.
This adds extra systems to consider when diagnosing a fault.
Common issues include:
- The touchscreen is unresponsive.
- The machine remains on its heating screen.
- Coffee is coming through slowly or not at all.
- The steam wand is producing little or no steam.
- Automatic milk texturing is not working correctly.
- The machine is producing unexpectedly cold coffee.
- The grinder is not delivering coffee consistently.
- The machine is leaking or tripping the electrics.
If the machine can make espresso normally but cannot texture milk, that distinction can help narrow down the investigation.
Similarly, if the touchscreen is working but the machine cannot heat or pump water correctly, the problem may be within the machine’s operating systems rather than the display itself.
Our standard Barista Touch service and repair fee is £120 plus any required parts.
Sage Bambino repair
The Sage Bambino is a compact espresso machine without the integrated grinder found on the Barista Express and Pro.
Its smaller footprint does not mean every fault is simple, however, and persistent water-flow or heating problems can require specialist diagnosis.
Common Bambino repair enquiries include:
- No water coming through the group head.
- The pump is making a noise but coffee is not dispensing.
- The machine is not heating correctly.
- The steam wand is not producing enough steam.
- The machine is leaking water.
- The buttons are flashing unexpectedly.
- The machine stops during operation.
- The cleaning or descaling process will not complete.
Start by checking the water tank, basket and other accessible components in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
If the machine continues to struggle after basic checks, repeated attempts to force water through the system may not help. An inspection can determine whether the cause is a restriction, pump problem or another internal fault.
Our standard Bambino service and repair fee is £80 plus any required parts.
Sage Bambino Plus repair
The Bambino Plus shares the compact format of the Bambino but adds automatic milk-texturing functionality.
As a result, repair enquiries can involve both the brewing system and automatic steaming controls.
Common Bambino Plus faults include:
- No water flow.
- Weak or absent steam.
- Automatic milk texturing not working.
- Milk not reaching the expected temperature.
- Water leaking underneath the machine.
- Flashing buttons or a persistent cleaning prompt.
- The machine failing to heat correctly.
- Coffee dispensing inconsistently.
If manual brewing works but automatic milk texturing does not, include that information when arranging a repair. It can help identify which functions need closer inspection.
Our standard Bambino Plus service and repair fee is £80 plus any required parts.
Why is your Sage coffee machine not working?
Regardless of which model you own, several fault categories appear across the Sage range.
1. No water coming through the group head
This can be caused by an obstruction, a pump or valve problem, scale accumulation or another fault affecting water delivery.
Check that the water tank is filled and correctly fitted. If the machine still cannot dispense water, an inspection may be necessary.
2. Low pressure or slow coffee extraction
Low pressure and slow extraction are not always the same problem. Grind size, coffee dose and basket condition can all affect the result.
If the machine has suddenly lost its usual flow, particularly when using your normal settings, an internal restriction or component fault may be responsible.
3. Weak steam or no steam
Steam faults may involve a blocked steam tip, restricted water delivery, a valve or a heating component.
If coffee still works normally but steam does not, explain that when booking. If steam escapes from inside the casing, stop using the machine and arrange an inspection.
4. Water leaks
Leaks can originate from seals, hoses, connections, valves or other internal components.
Water underneath the machine does not necessarily identify the failed part, because water can travel through the casing before reaching the worktop.
If you suspect an internal leak, stop using the machine and unplug it if safe to do so.
5. Grinder failure
On machines with integrated grinders, symptoms may include unusual noise, no ground coffee, inconsistent dosing or a grinder that stops working completely.
A blockage, incorrect assembly, worn component or drive fault may be responsible. Cleaning and correct adjustment can help with some problems, but persistent faults require further investigation.
6. Heating and electrical problems
A Sage machine that fails to heat, repeatedly stops during warm-up or trips the electrics needs careful diagnosis.
Do not repeatedly reset the electrical supply or dismantle the machine yourself. If the machine trips the electrics, stop using it and disconnect it if safe to do so.

Is it worth repairing a Sage coffee machine?
For many owners, repairing a Sage coffee machine is worth exploring before buying a replacement.
A machine that has stopped pumping water, developed a grinder fault or lost steam may only require specific components to be repaired or replaced.
The decision depends on several factors:
- The age and general condition of the machine.
- The underlying fault.
- The cost and availability of replacement parts.
- The condition of other major components.
- The overall repair cost compared with replacement.
We believe customers should understand the problem and the likely cost before making that decision. That is why we offer a free initial inspection and explain our findings before chargeable repair work begins.
Repairing a machine where practical can also extend its useful life and help reduce unnecessary electrical waste.
